According to The Economic Times, the maximum increase in prices is seen in Delhi, where onion is costing Rs 34/kg at present, as against Rs 24/kg in the year-ago period, as per data maintained by the Consumer Affairs Ministry.

According to Department of Commerce data, India exported onions worth Rs. 2300 crore during 2014-15. The import of the item during 2014-15 was merely 1.54 cr.

It is high time the government comes out with a concrete policy with regard to potatoes and onion specially involving export of these items. People feel that 'onion' is getting an undue preferential treatment by media whereas they are facing the problem of high prices of practically all items of daily food consumption. "Other items get eclipsed due to the prominence given to onion," they complain.
